The fundraiser at the Kolo Club for the victims of the Valentines Day weekend fire demonstrated the epitome of community and everything that a community is suppose to be. Neighbors helping neighbors. Nothing more nothing less. Nothing fancy nothing flashy. The most basic of act of all, human kindness.
It wouldn’t have been possible without Father Robert Meyer at Saints Peter and Paul in coordination with Mayor Dawn Zimmer. They reached out to the Kolo Club. Antipasti, light entrees and cookies were donated by Liz and Anthony Pino, owner of Hoboken’s Anthony David, Bin 14 and upcoming restaurant Porter Collins. 25 dollars at the door was a small price to pay for the spirit of selflessness that filled the room. The fire victims spoke of their ordeal, some choking back tears and expressing sincere appreciation for the outpouring of support and love. I was proud to be there and had the pleasure of speaking with Father Bob a day before the fundraiser.
